Since we are located in the center of the Bay Area, you can approach
the CSUEB Library from any direction. Below you will find basic driving
instructions for the four primary approaches - North, South,
East, and West.
To get to the CSUEB Library
from the North (Oakland, San Leandro, points North)
- Take I-880 freeway south.
- Exit Jackson Blvd. East
- Circle back over the freeway, heading east on Jackson.
- Turn right on Santa Clara (1st large intersection)
- Follow Santa Clara as it curves to the right and becomes Harder
Road
- Continue down Harder Road, until you reach the large intersection
with Mission Blvd.
- Stay on Harder and continue straight through the intersection,
heading towards the hill
- Harder Road will start to climb abruptly, and will begin curving
up the hill
- At the top of the hill, you will come to a stop sign
- Immediately to your right there is a Public Information kiosk
from which you can get parking directions and a campus map
showing the Library (or print one from the CSUEB
Maps page)
To get to the CSUEB Library
from the South (Fremont, Milpitas, San Jose, points South):
- Take I-880 freeway north.
- Exit Jackson Blvd. East (do not
go towards the San Mateo Bridge to the west)
- Bear right and merge onto Jackson Street, heading east
- Stay in the right lane – Almost immediately there will a large
intersection
- Turn right on Santa Clara (1st large intersection)
- Follow Santa Clara as it curves to the right and becomes Harder
Road
- Continue down Harder Road, until you reach the large intersection
with Mission Blvd.
- Stay on Harder and continue straight through the intersection,
heading towards the hill
- Harder Road will start to climb abruptly, and will begin curving
up the hill

To get to the CSUEB Library
from the West Hesperian Blvd area, the Peninsula, other
points West):
- Take highway 92 east (i.e., across the San Mateo bridge if you
are coming from the Peninsula)
- Highway 92 becomes Jackson Street as you pass over the I-880
freeway, heading east
- Stay in the right lane – Almost immediately there will a large
intersection
- Turn right on Santa Clara (1st large intersection)
- Follow Santa Clara as it curves to the right and becomes Harder
Road
- Continue down Harder Road, until you reach the large intersection
with Mission Blvd.
- Stay on Harder and continue straight through the intersection,
heading towards the hill

up the hill

To get to the CSUEB Library
from the East (Dublin, Pleasanton, other points East):
- Take highway 580 west to 238 north and exit East 14th street
- Take East 14th street south for 4 miles – East 14th becomes
Mission Blvd as you enter Hayward.
- Continue down Mission Blvd until you reach the intersection
with Carlos Bee Blvd.
- Turn left onto Carlos Bee – the road will begin a steep ascent
up the hill almost immediately
- Carlos Bee begins to climb abruptly, and will begin curving
up the hill – stay in the far right hand lane
- Almost at the top of the hill – and just before the first stop
light – you will see a large red sign that says California State
University
- Bear to the right at the sign and proceed further up the hill
(in the right lane) to the first available driveway on the right
- Turn into the driveway of the parking lot immediately on your
right, and proceed to the Public Information kiosk from which
you can get parking directions and a campus map showing the Library
(or print one from the CSUEB

the primary public transportation approach to CSUEB and the Library:
To Get to the CSUEB Library
Using BART
The Hayward station is on both the Richmond
to Fremont and the San Francisco/Daly
City to Fremont BART lines.
The Castro Valley Station is on theSan
Francisco/Daly City to Dublin/Pleasanton
BART line.
To Get to CSUEB from the Hayward
BART Station
From the Hayward station, you can take either AC Transit's 92 bus
or CSUEB's Hillhopper Shuttle to Campus:
AC Transit's 92 bus:
An AC Transit bus leaves Hayward BART for campus approximately every
20 minutes throughout the day. The AC Transit fare is currently
about $1.35 to campus and is accessible to persons with disabilities.
CSUEB Hillhopper Shuttle: The Hillhopper runs only between 7:15 and 9:25 a.m. in the
mornings and between 4:55 and 9:57 p.m. in the evenings. There is
no mid-morning and afternoon Hillhopper service. The Hillhopper
is free and is also accessible to persons with disabilities. Check
the schedule here.
Other Options: Taxi cabs are also available at the Hayward and Castro Valley
BART stations.
